New Collection
In this episode we featured the new collection by Momo “Zodiac signs”
What is the Zodiac?
Every people know their zodiac sign despite only few believe in the zodiac but who really know how the zodiac came about?
In astronomy and astrology, the zodiac is a belt around the heavens extending 9 degrees on either side of the ecliptic, the so called plane of Earth's orbit and the Sun's apparent annual path.
It is called zodiac because most of constellations through the ecliptic path represent animals, and in Greek zodiakos means animals.
The Zodiac Signs
There are 12 zodiac signs, in order: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancel, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces
The signs cover roughly the equivalent of a month's time but unlinke our calendar months, ime for zodiac signs is calcultated differently.
According to astrologists, the cycle of zodiac signs is made up of three key components: the sign, the four elements and three modalities.
What is the meaning of the signs?
Beside the meaning of the actual sign, astrologists consider also the sign belonging to the four elements: fire, air, earth and water and the three modalities: cardinal, fixed and mutable.
Interpretation of zodiac signs is a very complex art and despite few people admit to believe in it, many do not mind reading the oroscope.
The zodiac signs in art
While the zodiac signs do not belong certainly to science, they have influenced human imagination since ancient time and art describes this contribution quite well.
From Salvator Dali to Leonardo Da Vinci, to many other not so popular artists, the zodiac has often been a great muse for artists all around the world.
Most of artists have interpreted the zodiac signs while other have used symbolically in their own art.
A very interesting case is Leaonardo Da Vinci's "Last Supper" where there seems to be a correlation between how the apostles are grouped, in group of 3 and at the sides of Jesus.
Mind creation
While stars are very concrete in the infinite mysterious space that surround us, constellations are a work of observation and imagination.
It is possible because of human ability to observe and dream about reality.
It is indeed precious that over the history of man kind these symbols have became so important to our own lives and that artists are always reinventing them, giving new passion to the zodiac signs.
Momo Zodiac signs
Momo, who is BullishArt specialized collage artist, has created his own zodiac signs collection by interpreting them in his unique style.
In the artist words:
"When I was researching about the universe and stars other than the earth, I learned that thousands of years ago, people living on earth looked at the night sky and named the constellations, comparing them to animals. Today, I have my own constellation based on the day I was born, and it makes me happy to find my own constellation when I look up at the night sky.
I wanted to express the 12 signs of the zodiac, which are also used in astrology and mythology, in my own way as a digital work.
I wonder what kind of life exists in the stars we see in the night sky."
This collection is an explosion of color and life. There is an interesting abundance of elements, that resemble a digital collage.
The artist has done a great job in designing his own unique style for the zodiac signs.
Beautiful aren’t they? You can collect them clicking on the caption, there are only 10 edition per zodiac sign.
